Osprean Robotics
A watchtower that never sleeps
Osprean Robotics develops autonomous watchtower drones that patrol the territory from their own base, detect smoke in its first minutes and send the team an alert with an image and location for verification. Day and night, with no manual intervention between flights.

Built into the Osprean platform
One drone, three modules: before, during and after
What the drone captures reaches the three Osprean modules depending on the phase of the emergency, on the same map and for the same team. It is not an isolated system: it adds value throughout the cycle, whether or not there is a fire.
Before
Osprean prevention
Flights with no fire update the municipality's vegetation and fuel mapping. That data feeds the wildfire simulator to compare scenarios and decide where to act first, and complements the resource inventory and territorial inspections.
See Osprean preventionDuring
Osprean coordination
When the drone detects smoke, the alert arrives with an image and coordinates for the team to verify. If the plan is activated, the location of the fire and the spread prediction are added to the shared operational map of the Virtual Emergency Centre, where each action group manages perimeters, road closures and evacuation routes.
See Osprean coordinationAfter
Osprean recovery
After the fire, aerial imagery is brought onto the same map as daños.info reports and technical inspections. It is used to delimit the affected area by severity, the basis for zoning, the budget and the supporting report for aid, and later flights document how the land regenerates.
See Osprean recoveryHow it works
From take-off to alert, with no manual intervention
Each drone operates from a fixed, secure base and repeats the same cycle autonomously. The team only steps in when there is something to verify.
- 01
Secure, autonomous base
A fenced station protects, charges and deploys the drone. It runs on grid power or solar panels and connects via 4G or satellite.
- 02
Scheduled patrol
The drone takes off every 5 minutes, climbs vertically to 120 m and covers its assigned territory before returning to the base.
- 03
Early detection with AI
RGB and thermal cameras scan the terrain; cloud-based artificial intelligence confirms the smoke and pins its position on the map.
- 04
Alert for human verification
The team receives an alert with a high-resolution image, distance and coordinates, and decides whether to notify the fire services.
- 05
Night watch
When night falls, the thermal camera keeps detecting hotspots that the human eye and conventional cameras cannot see.
- 06
Spread prediction
If there is a fire, every patrol updates the perimeter and the forecast spread at 15, 30 and 60 minutes, based on wind and terrain.
Comparison
Versus IoT sensor networks
A more versatile alternative to spreading fixed sensors across the forest: the same detection speed, lower cost and impact, and territorial data all year round.
- 01
Spanish and European technology
Developed in Spain by the Osprean group and integrated into its emergency management platform.
- 02
Detection as early as sensor networks
Minutes, not half-hours: the warning arrives in the initial phase of the fire.
- 03
Faster and cheaper to install and maintain
One base instead of a network of devices spread across the territory, with lower environmental and visual impact.
- 04
Terrain mapping when there is no fire
Up-to-date vegetation and fuel data, and even wildlife through its thermal traces.
- 05
Post-fire monitoring
Measures how the burned land recovers, flight by flight.
Frequently asked questions
What is Osprean Robotics?
It is the Osprean group's line developing hardware and robotic systems for emergencies. Its main product is the autonomous watchtower drone, which patrols the territory from a fixed base, detects smoke with RGB and thermal cameras and artificial intelligence, and sends a verifiable alert to the Osprean platform.
How often does the drone patrol, and at what height?
It takes off on a schedule every 5 minutes, climbs vertically to a 120 m surveillance height and covers its assigned territory before returning to its base.
Does it work at night?
Yes. The thermal camera detects hotspots without the need for visible light, so surveillance continues around the clock.
What does a municipality need to install it?
A site for the base, powered by the grid or by solar panels, and 4G coverage or a satellite connection. Installation is faster and simpler than deploying a sensor network across the forest.
